January 2012 - We have great news to start the New Year! American Legion National Headquarters approved our name change to "George Tadlock Post 472."

Our Adjutant, Walter McVeigh, received the approval on December 23rd, 2011. Post 472 members voted to change its name to give credit to George Tadlock, a Legionnaire who gave a lot to our Post.

George hosted Post meetings in his home and cooked meals there for members. George's wife Betty and his son, David, celebrated with us at our annual Christmas party. "I was so honored to sit with Mrs. Betty Tadlock and her son David Tadlock." said Commander David Wateska.

Betty told me that she enjoys reading the Bugler. She spoke of her interest and devotion to Post 72. Betty and David were glad to hear that we continue to function independently; and might I add, we are flourishing because of the dedication of George. Betty is very happy that we have named our Post 472 in honor of her husband George Tadlock.

The Flag Day ceremony in Palo Alto. The Palo Alto Fire Department did a wonderful job raising the flags (more difficult than one might think when the flag is that big and pole that tall!), and it was great to see so much support. Posts 472 and 375 of The American Legion worked for about two years to secure the proper lighting and new flags to make this possible. (Note: Kyle Finley is soon to be a SAL!)

The Commander's Corner

On April 1st, Bill Rector and I attended Auxiliary Unit 472 initiation ceremony of 17 new members in Sacramento.

This is the first Web site Auxiliary Unit in the American Legion, not only in California, but nationally. It was a privilege and honor to meet with such an outstanding group of very capable and organized women, who have done an exceptional job in making all of this become a reality. It was very inspiring to be a part of the initiation as well as hear the reports of the qualified chairpersons of all their relative committees. These gals have done us proud.

Post 472 member wives, daughters, sisters, etc., who have computer capability, should seek immediate membership in order to be a charter member of this worthwhile and precedent setting Auxiliary Unit in the American Legion. This is the wave of the future.

Organizer, Linda Workman, and all her staff are commended for all their successful effort.
