Official Bell of American Legion Auxiliary
Advancement the Colors ::
Flag of the United States of America

Opening Prayer Given by Unit Chaplain Mary Martin ::
Dear Heavenly Father,

Today is a difficult day. The memories are painful and some of the wounds we fear may never heal. Yet we pray you will help us to go on living for truth, firm in our hope of your salvation. May we live for you, Lord, and by doing so, be an example to our friends and family. we pray, we may learn obedience through these things that we have suffered. Help us not to question why, yet even if we do, give us courage to continue to trust you. Help us take the comfort and strength you've poured into our lives and use it to comfort and strengthen others who need hope.

We pray we might become a better people and help make the world a better place because of this terrible event. Thank you for the heroes that gave so sacrificially on September 11. Help us to remember their courage and learn from them. We want our lives to be worthy of you Lord, so make of it what you desire, and use us to fulfill your purposes. May the evil of that day cause us and our families to work harder to do good on this Earth and to bring your light into the dark places. Help us to never stop believing in you and living our lives for you.

Lord, heal all those who were crushed and broken on that day. May they come to experience your presence and know your peace.

Amen.

Song: Heaven [Remix 9/11/02]

"It's been a year daddy
I really really miss you
Mommy says you're safe now
In a beautiful place called heaven"

Oh I'm thinking about our younger years

"We had your favorite dinner tonight"

There was only you and me

"I ate it all up"

We were young and wild and free

"Even though I don't like carrots"

Now nothing can take you away from me

"I learned how to swim this summer"

We've been down that road before

"I can even open my eyes"

But that's over now

"While I'm under water"

You keep me coming back for more

"Can't you see me?"

Baby you're all that I want
When you're lying here in my arms
I'm finding it hard to believe
We're in heaven

"I started kindergarten this year"

Love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven

"I carry a picture of us
In my Blue's Clues lunchbox"

Oh once in your life you find someone

"You are the greatest daddy"

Who will turn your world around
Pick you up when you're feeling down
Now nothing can change what you mean to me

"I can swing on the swing by myself"

There's a lot that I could say
But just hold me now

"Even though I miss you pushing me"

Cause our love will light the way

"Can't you see me?"

Baby you're all that I want
When you're lying here in my arms
I'm finding it hard to believe
We're in heaven

"I miss how you used to tickle me"

And love is all that I need

"Tickle my belly"

And I found it there in your heart

"My belly hurts"

It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven

"I try not to cry"

I've been waiting for so long

"Mommy says it's okay"

For something to arrive
For love to come along

"I know you don't like it when I cry"

Now our dreams are coming true
Through the good times and the bad

"You never wanted me to be sad"

I'll be standing there by you

"I try Daddy but it hurts"

Baby you're all that I want

"Is it true you're not coming home?"

When you're lying here in my arms

"Maybe someday"

I'm finding it hard to believe
We're in heaven

"I can visit you in heaven, okay?"

And love is all that I need
And I've found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven

"It's time for me to go bed now
I sleep with the light on
Just in case you come home
And kiss me good night
I love you so much
I miss you Daddy"

September 3, 2008

Dear Unit 472,

The American Legion Auxiliary has built a good and faithful reputation since the ending of WWI. Few veteran service organizations have volunteered more hours to help veterans and their families in the history of the United States. The United States Veterans Affairs Department relies heavily on the Auxiliary to support their efforts in all of the VA hospitals around the country.

But the Auxiliary’s benefits do not stop with the dedication of our time. The financial support from grassroots Auxiliary units has played a vital role in assisting returning Veterans and their families. The presence of the Auxiliary’s financial gifts has undisputedly changed the lives of veterans and their families for the better.

This year the Creative Arts Festival will be held at the VA Loma Linda, California. The Creative Arts Festival is an annual competition that recognizes the progress and recovery made through therapy, and raised the visibility of the creative achievements of our nation’s veterans after disease, disability or life crisis.

The Festival is designed to spotlight the four creative arts therapies of art, music, dance and drama.

The American Legion Auxiliary Department of California is responsibly this year for the hospitality room for all participants and their families. Because of this large responsibility we are seeking funds or in-kind donations for the 2008 National Veterans Creative Arts Festival.

Such is my enthusiasm for this effort that I am serving on a committee to secure donations to support the Creative Arts. It is in this capacity that I am writing to you. I know that our unit will show a demonstrated interest in the welfare of the festival, and would appreciate the opportunity to help us meet our campaign goal.

I would appreciate the opportunity to answer any questions you may have, and to explain in further detail how our units support can make a significant difference in the lives of our veterans.

Donations can be sent to: The Unit Secretary/Treasurer marked for the VA Loma Linda, Creative Arts Festival.

Sincerely,
Nancy Brown Park, Volunteer Committee Member
